Trevor rubbed his eyes, positive this was an orgasm-induced hallucination, but no, Sypha still stood there, a pack slung over her shoulder and her blue eyes shooting daggers at them.

Alucard slid in front of him. "Sypha! When did you—"

"Just now, obviously," she said icily. "Just as it's obvious you weren't expecting any visitors if you're doing that in the hallway."

Trevor quickly laced his pants back up while Alucard was shielding him. "I thought you were staying with the Speakers longer."

"I told you three weeks," she said. "And you told me you were coming back here to help clean up the castle, not to have sex in the corridors."

"I did come back to clean up the castle!" Trevor protested. Fuck, why was he expected to think right after he'd come? "We've done a lot. There's almost a full staircase back down into the archive, now. Fuck, has it really been three weeks?"

"It's been nearly four." Sypha was fairly radiating fury. "I suppose I should be grateful that you two are actually getting along now, although I'd have picked another way to find out."

There was a plate with three slices of bacon and a hunk of bread sitting on the kitchen table when Trevor went looking, but Alucard was nowhere to be found. Trevor took the plate with him while he went exploring, poking around more of the castle and reminding himself how all the rooms went together. He'd thought his own home was huge, but it was nothing compared to this. One wrong turn and Trevor was pretty sure he'd never find his way back to the outside.

Had Alucard been lonely growing up here, with no one else around but his parents?

Trevor finished his breakfast and deposited the plate back in the kitchen, then decided against returning to the archive right this moment. Maybe he'd be able to tomorrow—or at least be able to go down there and start rebuilding a staircase—but today it just seemed smarter to stay out of places steeped in memories.
