Writing these update posts is giving me flashbacks to the MySpace days. I'm trying not to put any pressure on myself to keep up with them, but I am enjoying writing them. Feels a little bit more like I'm holding myself accountable for the stuff I'm working on this year. So let's see where things are:

- I did, indeed, noodle around and outline the aetherpunk short story, although it's probably going to be longer than it needs to be. That's okay; that's what draft 2 is for. My hope was to finish the story this month and if February wasn't the shortest damn month of the year, I might have been able to swing it. As it is, I'm not sure I'll get there before the end of the month. But, I've still got 8 days, so we'll see.

- It took me until midway through February, but I finally wrote down a list of things I wanted to accomplish this month, based off my goals for the year. And I also set up a rough schedule for each day, which is not so much "5:30 - walk dog, 6:00 - make dinner, 7:00 - eat and write," but more "Monday is for admin stuff, Tuesday and Wednesday are for watching shows, Thursday-Sunday are for writing/editing/studying the craft." It's only been about a week in progress, but I like saying to myself "Don't feel guilty for not writing on X day, because X day is for something else." It'll require some adjustment, I'm sure, but it's a start.

- Reading isn't on that list because I've picked a habit back up that I started last year and then fell out of late in the summer, which is reading before I go to bed. Maybe a chapter or two, or a handful of short stories if I'm making my way through an anthology. I do have to be careful about what I read right before bed, but generally I can tell when I need to save a book for the daytime hours. I've had a Nora Roberts book 2/3 finished since last summer because it's a romantic suspense, and the scenes from the villain's POV were starting to give me the heebie-jeebies and I didn't need that when I was trying to get to sleep. XD Right now I'm reading He Bears the Cape of Stars, one of the two masquerade-themed anthologies from [personal profile] duckprintspress.

- Speaking of DPP, my first standalone short story (that is, not part of an anthology) was published there this weekend: The Fated Prince! It's a short erotica just over 5000 words, about an arranged marriage between a human prince and a fae prince as they learn to navigate this new relationship. Give it a look-see if it sounds like your thing!

I cannot BELIEVE that it is nearly March. Seems like January was just last week.

How are you all doing this month?
