The third Snowflake Challenge for this year is Pimp Your Favorite Communities, Fests or Challenges!
General Fandom Communities
fandomcalendar- One of the first communities I followed when I joined Dreamwidth, and it's been so cool. There are boatloads of fandom events happening on Dreamwidth, including lots of multifandom events! A good place to keep up with the wide variety of things going on in fandom.
fandomtrumpshate - This annual auction supports progressive nonprofits aimed at protecting people left most vulnerable by the current administration. Over the past 3 years, the FTH auctions have raised more than $74,000USD for dozens of nonprofits. Last year the focus was especially on smaller organizations with limited budgets, and the FTH donations were extremely helpful for them. If you want to combine fannish interests and activism, this community is a great place to go.
smallfandomfest - This is "a prompt-based bi-annual fic/art fest for small fandoms," from the sticky post on their DW profile. The claiming and posting period is currently open until January 31. There are
so many prompts for small fandoms, stretching back to 2011, so there's something for just about everybody to try. I haven't had a chance to participate yet, but I've got my eye on a few prompts to fill in the next session.
smallfandomflsh - Every two weeks, a prompt word is posted, and you write a fic off that for a small fandom! Super low pressure, and you can go back through the archive of prompt words if the current one isn't inspiring.
picture_prompt_fun - I literally JUST discovered this community last week (thanks to the aforementioned fandomcalendar), and I'm really excited about following it this year. Basically there's a weekly picture prompt and you write a story for it, which can be any fandom or even original characters. Super simple and low stress!
trope_bingo - The 14th round for this just opened at the beginning of the month, and you can still sign up. It's an amnesty round, so you can basically pick and choose the prompts you want on your bingo card. I wanted to participate last year, but life got in the way, so I'm really excited about getting to try it this year!
Ship-Specific Events
12daysofsterek - This is an annual event where you sign up to create Stiles/Derek fanworks that are gradually revealed over the 12 days leading up to Christmas. It's been running for five or six years, I think? It's always a lot of fun to see the art and gifs and fics that come out of it.
stereksecretsanta - Another annual event, this one a gift exchange where all the gifts are posted anonymously starting on Christmas Eve and going on through to Christmas Day, and then on December 26, the creators are revealed. It's a little more structured than many of these other events, but it's been a lot of fun every time I've participated.
This past year, I've also spent a lot of time on Discord, particularly in the Ace Omens server (a Good Omens server geared toward an ace reading of the show/characters) and in my own server for Tiger & Bunny. Both have been wonderful communities for fannish flailing!
