Tales from Under the Dog
Mar. 10th, 2024 08:58 pmMy current foster dog has decided that if I'm going to have my laptop in my lap, her head's going to be in my lap, too, which makes typing super fun and, in fact, I cannot actually use the external mouse. (Trackpad, yes. Mouse, no.)
Anyway, let's see if I can get through an update before she moves her head enough that I can't use the keyboard, either.

I bumped my pledge up this time to 180 days instead of 120 because...well, because I usually do NaNo and that's 30 days right there, and I thought it might be a good challenge to hit 50% of the year. Surely 50% is possible, right? Well, so far I'm clinging to par by the skin of my teeth and I'm wishing that I hadn't wanted a challenge. XD Hopefully with March being a month with 31 days, and April being Camp NaNo, I'll be able to get fully back on track.
- What is probably NOT helping my writing habit is that I started playing FFVII Remake after rewatching Advent Children in theaters a couple of weeks ago, because that was one of The Formative games of my childhood. I'm only 4 chapters in, but I'm really enjoying it, and I've only had to look things up a handful of times (usually when there's a decision to make). However!! I've managed to avoid getting sucked into a 13-hour playing binge; the longest I've played is about 2 hours at a go and I haven't even played every day.
I'm extremely proud of myself for this, y'all have no idea. I virtually stopped playing video games several years ago precisely because if it was something like Final Fantasy, playing it was all I'd do, beyond the bare necessities of taking care of myself (and work). "I'll just play for 30 minutes" inevitably turned into 3 hours, and the next thing I knew it was time for bed. So the fact that I've been able to manage my time well enough to continue writing, reading, taking care of the dog, etc., is something worth being proud of.
- I'm on a social media hiatus for Lent, which means basically I'm staying off Tumblr, Twitter, and Facebook until March 31, in an effort to break the habit of just sitting and scrolling (and then picking up my phone to see if there's anything different on the little Internet *facepalms*). I've popped on for a few things (to opt out of having my posts sold to AI generators, for example, or to mark some new bot followers as spam), but overall I've done a pretty good job of staying away from social media. I'm allowed Dreamwidth, Pillowfort, and Bluesky, because those aren't the same kind of time suck as the others, but that's it. (I'm also hoping to get a little more regular about posting updates here on DW, but we'll see how that goes.)
Well, the dog's migrated closer to the keyboard, so that means I'm off.
